The Little Zag’s Welcome to Gonzaga Basketball! is a great way to learn more about Gonzaga University and its incredibly successful Men’s and Women’s basketball programs. But I hope it’s more than that. I have lived in Spokane my entire life and have been following Gonzaga Basketball for as long as I can remember. In writing this book, I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet many of the coaches and players that are responsible for making Gonzaga Basketball so successful over the years. During my conversations with them, I always asked this same question: “What Makes Gonzaga University Special?” While their answers were different, they were at the same time identical: “the people”, “the support I received while playing there”, “the fans”, and “the Spokane Community.” I have heard all of these ideas summarized in one simple phrase: “The Zag Spirit.” When you get right down to it, Gonzaga University is special because of the individual people that work there, study there, play there, and attend games there. I’ve witnessed that “Zag Spirit” frst hand through all of my many interactions with those closely connected to Gonzaga, and I hope that this book helps you experience it too! If you want to learn more about GU’s great coaches, standout players, magical seasons, great traditions, and that special thing called “The Zag Spirit”, this book is for you.
